Why buy a pet from Pets Habitat ???

Pets Habitat LLC is a family run business, with owners present at the shop every afternoon onwards. The business has not been left in hands of staff to do whatever they please or to chat around while animals are being ignored. Strict protocol is in place at our store when it comes to the care of our animals. Although, we sell cats and dogs and many other pets, we will talk about dogs in general on this page.

Let’s face facts. There are no serious dog breeders in UAE. There is no kennel club here where any locally bred pups may be registered. 80% expatriate population does not have the time nor desire to get into serious breeding programs. Lack of proper space and weather conditions are other factors why people don’t breed dogs in UAE. As such, you cannot buy a locally bred pup as you would back home, from a breeder, after having seen the mother and pups. In this case, when most pups are imported from various countries, you, as a buyer, deserve some assurance that the pup is from a healthy, home raised environment and has not been picked up from a ‘puppy mill’ or a ‘farm’. This is clearly evident from the friendly & social behavior of all our pets at our store.

We would rather not comment on how other small pet stores operate in Dubai, but here is a glimpse of the stringent process & policies that we have put in place and we follow these as religiously as humanly possible. Please read and be assured that puppy that you take home from Pets Habitat, Barsha is more likely to be a trouble-free pet and you will be proud to say, “I got my pet at Pets Habitat, Barsha”. Owners of this business are proud to have adopted 14 stray cats, 3 dogs, a cockatoo, many snakes and other small animals over a decade before starting a pet store. So, we WILL NOT support puppy mills or farms and WILL NOT TOLERATE any form of cruelty to animals.

Process at source:

• We have involved some highly reliable and ethical people & expert family based dog breeders in source countries to work with us. Most are retired vets for whom selecting, raising and exporting pups is a hobby as well as a viable business option.

• Since the actual breeder is neither equipped nor ready to handle the export procedure, our pups would be purchased from the breeder by a veterinarian after thorough health check. Pups would be around 9 to 10 weeks at time of purchase.

• Puppies are kept for 20-30 days at the veterinarian’s home while puppy’s blood sample is sent to the lab for rabies titer testing as required by UAE import requirement. It is a well known fact that home raised puppies are more social and makes better family pets that those raised on puppy mills or farms with minimal human contact. You will see this difference in our pups.

• Puppies are vaccinated against any possible viruses and given time to build immunity.

• Veterinarian monitors the puppies during this waiting period for any health issues. If any serious issues are found, puppy will not be exported to us.

• Puppy is exported to us in large sized crates. We apply central European code of conduct and ethics that are well known and reputed when it comes to animal transportation. As such, the animals are meticulously cared for at airport holding areas.

• We currently import from Belgium, Holland & Hungary.

Upon arrival in UAE

First of all, please take note that Pets Habitat will never bring a puppy directly from airport to shop for sale, unlike many other pet stores who believe in quick turnaround of pets for quicker financial gain.

A strict process is followed and documentary proof of steps taken is available upon request.

• Puppy arrives at Dubai airport. Is picked up in time and driven straight to the owner’s home in Sharjah. Here, the puppies are voluntarily kept under observation for 7-21 days in a big villa with plenty of playtime in the large garden.

• The 7-21 days observation period ensures that any underlying health problems may be noted as many problems in puppies do not show symptoms for first 3-4 days. Pups are closely monitored for appetite, body temperature, activity level in line with the breed and information is recorded in puppy’s our in-house health chart.

• Any vaccinations deemed necessary are completed by Pets Habitat.

• Puppies are checked by local vet to ensure they have no serious health issues. If any minor problem is noted due to weather change or diet change, puppy is given proper treatment and time to recover / adjust to local conditions and new diet.

• Puppies are brought to the shop only upon our / & our vet’s complete satisfaction of good health.

• All puppies will be pre-screened for Parvovirus/Distemper and any such lethal viruses.

Pets Habitat’s Guarantee of Good Health

When you purchase a puppy at our store, he/she comes with guarantee that the pet has been pre-screened and is free from any lethal viruses ( Parvo/Distemper) or any serious life-threatening medical condition. Please note that dogs/cats are living beings and can also catch common coughs and colds, just like human, regardless of all our care. Our effort is to do everything possible to avoid life threatening situations while admitting that minor problems cannot be avoided at times and we cannot be held liable for pet’s health after it goes home with you . Overall, our pups are more likely to be trouble free pets than compared to other pet stores, no matter how reputed the store may be.

At the shop

• Puppy arrives at the shop.

• Our resident vet examines the pup.

• Pup is washed and groomed by our professional master groomer.

• Pups are introduced to the play pen where it remains in company of other pets.

• If deemed necessary, some pets are placed in large cages.

• Medium breed pets kept in cages are taken for daily exercise/walks at sundown for about 1-2 hours.

• Meticulous feeding schedule is followed.

• Specific food formula is fed to each breed of pup, depending on its nutritional and growth requirements. For example, you will never see a English Bulldog/Cocker spaniel being fed a diet meant for a Chihuahua/Toy Pomeranian or a Yorky. We feed Nutirence / Bento Kronen, super premium brand of food imported from USA / Europe to all our pets for optimal and proper growth potential of each breed.. Please observe and compare this factor at other pet stores and ask the salesman what they feed their pets while they are at the shop. We believe none of the pet stores pay such detailed attention to these factors which are of extreme importance if your pet has to remain healthy and grow as it should without digestive or growth issues.
  
  
  As such, you get a healthy pup, well socialized & often pre-trained to pee & poo on the newspaper.

Free training session with every pup

We offer one Free training session with every pup purchased. Our expert dog trainer will visit your home and provide some useful tips on how to housebreak your puppy and general obedience training. You may request the trainer for further lessons at a nominal fee.

Result

Yes, we admit that it is ideal to buy a pet directly from a breeder. However, in UAE, where it is impossible, we strive to infuse some sense into import and sale of pet animals. As it is a family run business, it is somewhat easier for us compared to other pet stores who do not pay meticulous attention to the initial care that a puppy requires. Our pet comes with peace of mind, saves hassle of frequent trips to the vet and thousands of Dirhams on vet bills. Too good to be true? Ask for references of our customers and talk to them.
